2012 - Rockin' it in Europe

I can't believe my official 18-week training program starts tomorrow! I am running the Rock 'N' Roll Edinburgh Half Marathon on April 15th and the Rock 'N' Roll Madrid (Full) Marathon the following week, on April 22nd. I am going global! All the way from San Diego, like Competitor Group!

Rock 'N' Roll Edinburgh will be my 12th half marathon or perhaps my 13th. I am debating about signing up for the San Diego Half Marathon at PETCO Park. It's my first trip to Scotland. If you're reading this and you've lived in Edinburgh, tell me all about it. I'll be there for 6 days. Also, is it worth a day trip to Glasgow? What about Stonehedge? I know it's kind of far from Edinburgh but the pictures are breathtaking.

As for Rock 'N' Roll Madrid, this will be my second marathon, my first in Spain. I grew up in Madrid so I know the city very well. My family and many of my friends still live there. I can't wait. It's going to be a BIG party!

  3. Hi,

I just saw your post on my blog beginners run marathons too.

Madrid sounds so great and I am really looking forward to it. It will be my third marathon in 11 months :-)

Right now I have no support team as I'm travelling alone but if the people watching are the same as in Valencia then they will all become my support! The Spanish are such great spectators :-)

My advice skip Glasgow. It really isn't worth it. If you want to see Stonehenge then it's best to fly into London and then go from there. I've never been to Edinburgh but people say it's a great place.

I'm in Madrid from the Thursday until the Monday. How about you?

  4. SM - Thanks :-)
Monika - I am thinking of running Le Marathon de Paris in 2013 for my 40th birthday. Join us!

Lynne- I just saw that you ran marathons in Copenhagen and Valencia. OMG, I want to! I always wanted to visit Denmark! I've been to Valencia many times but I never raced in Spain. I can't wait! I don't know if you've been in Madrid before but I'd be glad to show you around if interested. I arrive on Wed and leave on Mon or Tue. I am buying tickets this week. BTW, my name is Ciry :)

  5. Hi Ciry,

I've never been to Madrid and would love to take you up on your offer of showing me around :-)

I'm all booked up and ready to go! I'm staying in a little studio apartment that I have rented near the start line.

Valencia marathon was fantastic!! If you ever do come to Copenhagen then I'll show you around :-)

  6. I stay 12 miles from the city and will be powerwalking the marathon for a breast cancer charity. Can't wait RnR marathons look great. You will love Edinburgh, especially the old town. Glasgow is great as well both really old cities. Depending on transport and weather I would make a visit up north to Inverness or over to the west and Skye. Both have breathtaking scenery and can be done in 1 or 2 days. Hope you enjoy your time here whatever you decide to do.

Maggiemay - RNR races are the best. I can't wait to run in Europe. Good luck with your race and charity. It's always nice to run for a good cause. Thanks for the info. I'll check into Inverness and Skye too!

    Happy Holidays, everyone!
