NYC Marathon Training: Week 6 & 7 ( Aug 8th - 21st) - The week I went LOCA for running

I am head-over-heels in love with running. I've never realized until last Wednesday (August 9th), when Run Faster, mommy! announced in her page that iFitness was giving away an entry to the Disneyland Half Marathon. Let me explain. The race is ON my birthday, September 4th. I can't think of a better way to spend my special day than running at Disneyland!

This was the Facebook post on iFitness' wall:

We love making your dreams come true…and not just with our belts. :-)

As the proud Official Race Belt for runDisney we are excited to giveaway a FREE entry to the Disneyland ½ Marathon on September 4, 2011.

Rules:
1. Get 5 people to “like” us on Facebook or “follow” us on Twitter.
2. We must know that they came from you, so they need to post your name in a comment or tweet.
Example:
FB: John Doe sent me!
Tweet: @JohnDoe sent me to @iFitnessRunning #runDisney #Free entry.
3. Per 5 people you send qualifies you for 1 entry into the giveaway.

So basically, the more people you send, the more entries you get.

Ready, set, gooooo!!!!

The winner was to be announced 7 days later, on Wednesday 10th

OMG! This was my second chance. When I went to signed up for it a couple of months ago, it was already SOLD OUT! I even sent an email to rundisney and they came back with "run for a charity or 2012". Well, the 2012 race is not going to be ON my birthday. I had to win this or wait until 2016.

Needless to say, I went a little loca! I "campaigned" tirelessly for this giveaway. I emailed, called, tweeted and facebooked my entire world. Guess what happened next? With a little LOT of help from my family, close friends, friends of friends, friends of friends of friends, a few strangers and a couple of awesome bloggers (Heather from Run Faster, mommy! and Caitlin from Healthy Tipping Point ), I was able to get enough entries and WON!

Thanks again to everyone that voted for me. To my friends at iFitness, thanks for making my dreams come true. It's the BEST birthday present EVER!

As for NYC training during these 2 weeks, I stuck to the program. On week 6, I ran 20 miles and took 4 Bikram Yoga classes. I put in more miles than scheduled. On week 7, I miss two 3 mile runs and 2 Bikram Yoga classes due to work schedule and kid's summer school events. I don't feel bad about it. I PR'ed in the AFC's Half Marathon with a 2:10:44. 1. Congrats on winning an entry into the Disney 1/2! That is going to be a fun race. And on your birthday?! Yahooo!

So awesome that you are running NYC! I entered the lotto but no dice. Training my butt off to try to auto qualify and get in next year.

Look forward to following you on your journey!

  3. That's so cool that you won an entry into the race. I registered for the race, but my husband forgot to. He's sad that I'll be running and he won't. Look for me at the expo and race. I'll be the big pregnant blonde wearing a sparkle skirt.

  4. I am happy! I can't complain :-) I'll look for you at the expo! Wondering if you've decided on a costume yet? I am still debating.
